Scrapbook layouts: title pages

Title pages are a fun way to present the content that follows in your scrapbooks.  Because I had visited three islands in Hawaii, I made three title pages.  I have already showcased two of these layouts previously, but I wanted to talk about title pages today.
DSC00370
Idea: Use a fun chipboard die cut or sticker as the focal point of your title page.
Idea: Use fun stamps.  Here I used travel themed stamps.
Idea: use glitter letters to attract attention to your title.
DSC00348
Idea: All out of letter? Handwrite your title by hand or using a stencil.
Idea: Raid your scrap stash for small pieces of scraps to write on.  It gives a cheery and happy feel to the layout.
Idea: Use that ribbon that you don`t know what to do with.  With all the colors, something is bound to match.
DSC00338
Idea: Put a picture that you fell represents the title or section to come.
Idea: Missing a letter? Add one that doesn't match, it looks fun and it looks like it’s on purpose!

Scrapbook layouts

New layouts to share with you.  These where made a while back.  I was trying out new products that I had just purchased.
DSC00367
Idea: Add some matching bling to your layout.  Bling is always fun to look at!
DSC00368
Idea: Put a flower and a brad on top of ribbon.  I used colors that match the ribbon flowers.  It adds a little unexpected touch.
DSC00369
Idea: Experiment with stamping.  Although I didn’t achieve the look I was going for, I still enjoyed playing with these new stamps that I had purchased for a dollar each!  You can use stamps to frame a picture or frame the page.

Scrapbook layouts and ideas

New summer layout ideas.
DSC00361
If you have three pictures that you would like to put into the same layout, this is a fantastic way to arrange them.  Put your favourite one in the middle.  Make sure that the ones you put on the side don`t cut off anything important.  Notice how I chose to use pictures where I was in the inner corner.
DSC00362
Paper piercings are fun to make and cheap too!  I made this summer out two different coloured papers.  Also had these fun sandal stickers, so I made them into a footprint border.
DSC00363
This is a pretty busy layout.  It looks a bit crooked, but that only because my picture-taking skills need some work.  The layout is actually very straight and proportionate.  I had left over strips of yellow paper, so I made them into a background for the `happy`sticker.
DSC00364
This last layout is also busy.  I used three photo corners to create an accent in the upper right corner. I also did this on another layout in a previous blog, but with smaller corners and more of them.  I also clustered some flowers.  Finally, I made a mistake when spelling `Hanauma Bay`, so I re-wrote it on blue cardstock and put it over the mistake.  Great way for covering up mistakes, and it looks like I did it on purpose!

Baby Card Layouts

Here are some baby cards I recently made.  Feel free to scraplift the layouts.
IMG_0248
This simple card was made using a bird punch, a cute ribbon and metal accent and a brad (`adorable` is a brad).
IMG_0273
The remaining three card where created in the same way..  I used a ribbon and metal accent, I stamped the sentiment and matted it before popping it up on foam pop-ups.

IMG_0275
I didn't have anymore metal accents, so I just used the ribbon on this card.  To spice it up, I added two different colored papers.

Scrapbooking Layouts and Ideas

Today I have some simple ideas that can be created using white backgrounds.  The theme is beach, pool or summer pictures.  Check out my favourite sun-soaked summer layouts.
DSC00358
Cut out circles with your scissors or circle cutting tool to create a sunny look around your picture.  I used warm colors because it`s a summer picture.  I also did some journaling around the circles for a fun touch.
DSC00365
I found these amazing chipboard stickers that I really wanted to use on pictures of the guys swimming around.  I kept it simple to make sure that chipboard stickers could get noticed too.
DSC00359
I made this layout completely out of scrap leftover papers from previous layouts.  Added a few flowers, some chipboard stickers and bling that matches the color of the sky.
DSC00366
Very simple layout.  Half of the layout is pictures (4x6) and the other half has a title, some flowers and a little bit of journaling.

Scrapbook Layouts

These scrapbook pages where mostly created using the Creative Memories Zoo paper and stickers.  I really like this collection.  I find that the papers have nice colors and are well suited for scrapbooking a day at the zoo.
DSC00353
This page is clean and simple.  I opted to highlight only one picture that I really liked.  The scalloped paper is hand cut, it gives it more of a child's feel to the page.  The Bling is a nice side accent.
DSC00354
Here I found a way to display three monkey pictures without overwhelming the page.  I repeated the paper layers to create a sort of consistency between the pictures.
DSC00355
I love this layout.  Still very simple, I used a tag to mention that it`s a Rhino.  I hand cut the scalloped half photo mat.  Using buttons for paper flowers that don`t have a center creates a nice finishing touch.
DSC00356
Very simple, I layered 4 paper strips together to create an accent on the left side of the picture.
DSC00357
I didn't have much left, but wanted to keep with the theme, so I used the leftover paper and stickers.  I added a simple ribbon to the left, some flowers on the upper right corner of the picture and wrote with an acid free felt `the end`.

Scrapbook layouts

Here are some more scrapbooking layouts for your inspiration!
Make a page dedicated to your title. This is also a great opportunity to use those old scraps of paper you don`t know what to do with.  I used a stencil and some acid free felts to write the title.  I added a die cut and a sticker with a strip of ribbon to polish off the look.
DSC00348
Have photo corners but don`t know what to do with them?  Create interesting designs, such as I did on the left.  They add a bit of flair.
DSC00349
Cut strips out of your favourite leftover scraps and layer them all over the page.
DSC00350
Don`t be afraid to hand write your journaling, the personal touch will be appreciated by you kids in the future.
DSC00351
Play up a picture that`s out of focus by highlighting the main feature.  Here, dancers dancing with fire are just too fast for my camera.  It still made an amazing picture to scrapbook.

Happy scrapping!

CardMaker Kit-of-the-Month club: Friendship Blooms Quick Review

I was so happy when I received my first CardMaker Kit-of-the-Month in the mail.  I had been waiting for it.  The concept if very interesting.  Each month, you will receive a card-making kit in the mail.  The kit comes with all the necessary materials (card blanks and envelopes, printed papers, a die-cut sheet, clear acrylic stamps, flowers, brads, ribbon, glitter and sandpaper).  They also give you a free gift with the first kit (a bone folder, an acrylic bloc and a versatile card making tool with three different tips).  Also included is a booklet with a technique guide and step-by-step sample card projects.
The showcased technique for the Friendship Blooms is sanding.  This kit was fun and simple and will appeal to new or experienced card makers.
What I liked:
- The premade cards had awesome shapes
- The kit had all the necessary materials to complete the projects
- The guide was comprehensive and easy to follow
- The stamp set has nice stamps
- I personally like glitter
- Learned a new technique
What I didn't like:
- Printed paper wasn't very thick.  I prefer thick papers.
- Only 10  cards to make (which is actually reasonable since the first kit if half-price off, but I  enjoyed making those cards so much that I was sad when I had finished them all!)
Here are some examples of the cards I made:

Painting whimsical animals

Here are some ideas that you can take to create whimsical animal paintings.  The imperfectness of the painting is what makes it so enchanting. Happy accidents become interesting features and clashing colors convey a sense of whimsy.  For each painting I have done, I give examples of techniques that can be used to achieve a similar look.
P6190002
L’ornithologue (the ornithologist)
Draw the outline of your animal with a hot glue gun.  Exaggerate some of the features.  Once dry, draw over the glue with permanent felts in various colors.  Draw in certain sections of the animal with oil pastels.  Don`t be afraid to mix up the colors.  When finished, paint over the oil pastels with acrylic paints.  Once dry, scratch designs into your animal such as feathers, fur, doodles, etc.  Afterwards, finger paint the negative space surrounding your animal.  Leave approximately half an inch to an inch of space between your animal and the finger paint.  This will frame your subject.  Add a glaze or a wash of color over the entire negative space.  Finish off by touching up a few features.
P6190007
Minou volant (flying kitty)
First thing, your going to need a piece of paper and a pencil.  Think of the animal you would like to paint.  Now try simplifying the animal down to two or three lines.  One line is even better.  In this painting, I simplified down to two closed lines: the body and the face.  Once you’ve got your shape down, prepare the background of your painting by tearing up strips of paper and applying them to the canvas.  It can be paper from an old book, a magazine of maybe even gift paper.  Inspiring yourself from the paper you have just chosen, use a hint of color in the white paint that will be apply to cover the entire background.  It can be opaque or translucent.  Now you can draw the simplified version of your animal with a charcoal or lead pencil.  Paint your animal with the colors of your choice and work the background creatively by inspiring yourself from the shapes and colors of the strips of paper that have been applied previously to the canvas.  Smudge oil pastel on painting and etch designs in it if you want.  You could also stamp the background and play up empty vs. full spaces.
P6190008
Ma belle Chanelle (My beautiful Chanelle)
Use the glue gun technique again, but paint the outline instead of drawing it with permanent felt pens.  To create the background, use soft gel and apply a thick coat with a painting knife, making sure to create a lot of texture.  Paint animal with acrylics and add doodles.  When background is dry add a few washes of colors.  The texture will prevent the paint from drying uniformly, creating an interesting background.  Finally, the clouds where painted on which the cat is sitting and the doodles repeated.
P6190006
Bulles de rêves, bulles de chats (Dream bubbles, cat bubbles)
Again, the glue gun technique is used and the rest was painted using acrylics.
