Lime, pears, goo and moutains.

House whitened with lime.

Traditional architectural villages are very picturesque.  The houses in them offer painters an array of details and symbols of peace and harmony, all of which are very interesting to represent.

Motif: By focalizing on the lighting, any corner can become the perfect subject to paint.  You don't need to climb up in the airs to find a great view.  Sometimes, little fragments hidden in the villages can reveals themselves to be far more interesting.  This is if only the artist can capture and reproduce the details: cobblestone streets, walls, houses decorated with potted flowers, wrought iron gates...

Painting tip: Painting knifes are great to realise texture and relief.  They were born out of the necessity to create new forms of artistic expression where texture and relief are valued, having nothing to do with the perfect realism of a paintbrush.

Themes: contrasts, white and black, wall, lantern, potted flowers, statuette, lime.

Pears sitting on fabric - still life.

Still life is great for developing your sens of observation, to work with natural colors and to work with the effects of life on objects.

Some might believe that still life painting is a common exercise (boring).  But this is false.  Each artist will bring its own originality to the painting because each painter is different, and will represent reality in a different way.  This genre will never be out of date, since you need only to update the compositions objects by playing with their forms and their colors.

In this painting, the classical theme of fruits is chosen.  The veil surrounding the pears is a very traditional detail.  On the other hand, the reduced number of pears and minimal decor confer a certain modernity to my composition, which distinguishes itself from ancient representations that are very busy and loaded.

Themes:  Pears, veil, minimalist, traditional, still life, modern, fruits.
Bgooty (Goo + Beauty)

This painting was inspired by a game I like to play called "World of Goo".  I totally ripped of a picture off an icon (see below).  I really liked the grunge feel that this cartoonish icon had, and felt like trying something new.  I used different gels to create relief in the face and hair of the subject.  Does anyone have an idea of what genre this type of painting would fall under?

Themes: Goo, beauty, contemporary art.

Snowy mountains

Snowy landscapes, rich in contrasts and light, confronts us to defined colors, especially to white colors that dominate the composition.

Expressing sensitivity: It frequently happens that the mood of the artist will be apparent in a painting.  This is because painting is a way of expressing what is going on in your life.  A brushstroke or the choice of color can communicate more than you think.  Landscapes are great to express sensitivity because of the wide array of themes, colors and forms.  Sunny and luminous scenes evoke life and happiness.  Dark skies and clouds evoke sadness and melancholy.  And snow, because of its lightness, a feeling of purity and vitality.

Themes: landscape, snow, mountains, emotions, sensitivity.

Did you see it?  I recklessly painted this composition.  Under 45 minutes, not even waiting for the paint to dry between paint coats.  Colors are very dark and vivid.  Brushwork is very minimal and under worked.  What was I feeling? I was annoyed because I had a migraine!
